We collaborated with [artist or other partner] to create a monumental canopy meant to shelter visitors gathering at [name of location].

The title of this monumental work refers to the underground network of plants called a rhizome. Located within the green space of the outdoor concept mall, RHYS resembles a shady group of trees intertwined to provide a shady retreat for the locals. The dome-like canopy is constructed from stainless-steel woven over three massive columns. A 'lantern effect' created by internal colored lighting via programmable LEDs creates a contrast to the austere daytime look of the sculpture. RHYS provides a central gathering place for Austinites and tourists to meet and make meaningful connections, day or night.
